We are at
a crossroads in my opinion and the
decisions made by the club and others
could cement the clubs position in the
top flight for years to come. We are
having our most prolonged spell in the
SPL and are challenging for a top 6
place for the 2nd year on the trot. We
have an excellent youth system and a
manager who has brought stability to
the club. We have the third stand
being started soon (Thanks to Sandy
Alexander) and a new kit deal with
Puma starting next year. Its all
looking rosy in the garden of Falkirk
or is it?
We cant allow things to rest on there
laurels and we must strive to make
improvements both on and on the pitch.
The club must improve its
communications amongst the fans
especially with the email system as
there isn't a week that goes by without
someone complaining their email hasn't
been replied to. The club must back
Yogi and take a chance for next
season. I fear Yogi could walk in the
summer if he doesn't get the backing
that his results have deserved.
Some of
you will also be aware of a campaign
of sorts that is going on with regards
the East stand and the council. Yes
the 3rd stand is being built but the
completion of the stadium will be a
long drawn out affair and that's why
with all the publicity of the 3rd
stand, The Helix and the Gateway
project we must keep the interest up.
Promises were allegedly made on a land
swap and weren't met, an investor group
is interested in the land and we could
get a new stand from it. Its important
that this interest isn't allowed to
just fall by the wayside. The
completion of the stadium would be
beneficial to the whole area. At the
moment its just a 1/2 finished
project. I would like to see all the
parties getting round the table to try
to get a deal done that would see the
stadium site completed within the next
5 years. I know that's a long time away
but if we don't strike while the irons
hot we might be sitting in a three
stand stadium for the next 20 years
plus. Co-operation and communication
is the key.
Once the third stand is opened there
should hopefully be more opportunities
open to the support. Hopefully Central
Scotland Police will see sense and
allow it to be a stand where
supporters can sit where they like
each week on a first come first served
basis. The stadium needs atmosphere
and that stand will go a long way to
making one. A lot of fans will
relocate from the main stand and into
the traditional Hope Street end of the
ground (oh the memories eh). This may
mean more seats available in the main
stand for the club to utilise for
hospitality etc. I just hope if they
do that they don't try to move people
from the centre of the stand and have
a hospitality section down the middle.
Progress is key and I believe we're
making it but there comes a time when
some chances/opportunities are taken.
I believe this time has perhaps come
and if the club don't back Yogi we may
lose one of the best managers we've
had. Its up to George Craig and the
board as to what happens now but as
supporters we can all do our bit by
getting behind the team and working
together for a better Falkirk Football
Club and a better day out.
