Steven started his professional career down at Bournemouth then signed for local rivals Portsmouth a season later. After being shipped out on loan to Exeter City, Sheffield Utd and QPR then failing to break into the first team at Pompey, Steve joined SPL side Dundee in 2002.
Steve scored 35 goals in 98 games and kept them up for two seasons. In his third season with Dundee, it was a close battle to stay in the league but on the last day of the season, the Dee's were relegated by 1 point.
Following Dundee's relegation from the SPL, Aberdeen pounced quickly to bring the fast and powerful striker up north for £250,000.
In his time at the Dons, Steve was mostly known as a "super-sub," and scored 20 goals in 76 appearances including 5 goals in 9 starts last season.
In the summer of 2008, it was announced that manager Jimmy Calderwood wouldn't offer him a new contract so Falkirk joined the race along with Bournemouth, Kilmarnock and Hibernian to lure him to their club on a free transfer.
Steve picked Falkirk due to their great training facilities and signed on a one year contract with an option of a second year.
