FALKIRK 4 1 HAMILTON

Lovell, Arfield(2), O'Brien

Olejnik (og)

This was a must win game for the Bairns against a newly-promoted Hamilton side who'd had a good start to the season with 9 points from 5 games.

Midway through the first half, Falkirk created their first opportunity when Higdon flicked on for Steve Lovell, who's attempt at goal was punched away by Cerny.

With 44 minutes on the clock, the opening goal came. A great passage of play including 16 passes led to Graham firing the ball across the box, which was to be met by the outstretched boot of Steve Lovell

From the start of the second half, Falkirk had the huge majority of possession and chances. Kevin McBride had a crack at goal from 25 yards, which was punched clear by Cerny in full flight.

Hamilton came extremely close to an equaliser, so close, there fans started celebrating. David Graham swung in a ball to the far post and Steven Etienne's header smacked the post, then McCarthur failed to connect with the rebound.

The goal that Falkirk desperately needed came shortly after that, Simon Mensing lost the ball and Scott Arfield went on a mazy run that ended with the ball in the left hand corner of Cerny's net. It was a fantastic goal, and possibly a contender for goal of the season.

The next goal for Falkirk was just as good, Lovell pressed on the 'keeper and he had a poor kick out. The ball fell to Burton O'Brien, and he beat a few men and smashed the ball into the net from 20 yards.

With three minutes to go, came the fourth goal for the Bairns. Gerard Aafjes was hauled down by David Graham in the penalty box. Scott Arfield stepped up to the spot and scored Falkirk's first penalty in the league since the 1st of January 2007.

Hamilton got a goal back in the final minutes. Trent MacLenahan's cross was punched into his own goal by Robert Olejnik.
